“The taxi is the first of a series of vehicles to be specified for this important segment of the society to meet pressing demand,” said Abdullah Al Zari, Director-General of Sharjah Transport.

“Each and every cab firm operating in the emirate shall specify one vehicle while Sharjah Taxi shall start with three cabs to be raised to ten very soon,” he added.

Al Zari said all such vehicles have been equipped with hydraulic lift in the rear to help carry the passenger on his wheelchair as easily as possible.

“Spacious seats are also available for special needs families. They are all firmly fastened with belts inside the car for more safety and convenience,” he said, noting that each vehicle costs between Dh100,000 and Dh120,000.

The service is available via the advance booking system which is reachable on the phone (600545455) of the main Call Centre. “The cab driver is ready to pick any special needs passenger or family at anytime to and from any destination in or outside the emirate,” Al Zari said. “The taxi meter shall start ticking at Dh15, including booking tariff.”
