Three days left to avail 55% discount on RAK road fines

Ras Al Khaimah - 22,120 fines paid in nine days of the 14-day reduction period starting from November 1

If you have a traffic fine and want to shell out less, you need to rush as only three days are left to avail the 55 per cent discount on road penalties announced by the Ras Al Khaimah Police on October 31.

Till now, thousands of erring drivers have paid up to 22,120 fines in the first nine days of the 14-day reduction period starting from November 1, and slated to end on November 15.
Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of the RAK Police, said the 55 per cent discount can be availed on all types of traffic offences and even those involving vehicle impoundment.
"The move is meant to mark the 7th anniversary of the ascension day of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah."
However, the 55 per cent discount can only be availed through payment on the smart app of the UAE ministry of interior, he added.
"The fines, involving vehicle impoundment, can only be paid at the traffic and licensing centres and police stations in all areas of the emirate, though."
Maj-Gen Al Nuaimi said the 55 per cent discount is not only the biggest ever in the emirate, but also the first of its kind here.
"The two-week discount on all types of road violations is available for two weeks only - from November 1 to 15."
Maj-Gen Al Nuaimi said Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah spares no effort to secure a prosperous and stable life for every citizen in the emirate and in all fields.
"The Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah has launched numerous development initiatives and projects to enhance the quality and standards of living in the emirate and ensure safety, security and stability everywhere."
The decision is in line with the RAK Police initiatives to bring happiness to customers, and urge them to observe traffic rules and regulations, he underlined. "The move will reduce financial burdens on all members of the society."  
Official records show that the fixed and portable radars on the roads of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah have detected up to 219,746 speeding drivers in the first nine months of this year.
"The erring drivers exceeded the set speed limit while posing road users' life and theirs at stake," said Maj Gen Al Nuaimi.
The speeding cameras are meant to curb reckless drivers and boost safety on the roads of the emirate, he said. "These fixed and portable radars also help reduce traffic accidents and casualties." ahmedshaaban@khaleejtimes.com
