Trade Centre bridges 50% complete

The Trade Centre Bridges Project in Zabeel is nearly 50 per cent complete with construction set to finish in November 2013, announced Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), on Saturday.

The project comprises construction of 22 precast concrete bridges extending 4,236 metres in length and 15 metres in width, in addition to another 120 metre-long concrete bridge added to serve traffic outbound to Al Maktoum Bridge.

“The Trade Centre Bridges Project, which costs about Dh719.37 million, is by far the largest phase of the Parallel Roads Project which is one of the mega road projects undertaken by the RTA that aims at linking the Western Parallel Road with the Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed Road at Lamcy Plaza complex in a 312 metre-long road passing by the World Trade Centre,” said Al Tayer.

“The project also serves the traffic in the opposite direction of Street 312 passing along the Trade Centre towards Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud Bridges as well as the Dubai–Al Ain Road. It also serves trucks moving from Rashid Port heading towards the Dubai–Al Ain Road, and includes signalised junctions at the intersection of the Trade Centre in addition to infrastructure and lighting works.” Al Tayer said this is the latest phase of an integrated project to link up several different areas of the city.

“The RTA has already accomplished key phases of the Parallel Roads Project including opening of the initial phase which included the construction of roads at Al Barsha, and Al Quoz Industrial and Residential Areas spanning Hissa Road in the south and Meydan Road in the north extending 15km in the Eastern Parallel Road and 18km in the Western Parallel Road. The roads comprise three lanes in each direction and several intersecting arterial and express roads such as Umm Suqeim Road, Latifa bint Hamdan Road and others, including 25 signalised junctions. The RTA has also opened roads under Phase III (B), which pass through sprawling urban developments in areas such as Jebel Ali Racecourse, Emirates Hills, Springs, Meadows, Jumeirah Islands and Jumeirah Park. The road, which extends about 20km, constitutes 14 per cent of the total Parallel Roads Project, and comprises three to four lanes in each direction. The RTA has also opened several key roads in the Business Bay area between Shaikh Zayed Road to the north, Meydan Road to the west, Financial Centre Road to the east and Al Khail Road to the south. The project comprises the construction of roads extending 16km, a 600 metre-long bridge, seven light signals and storm water drainage network.”
