Abu Dhabi Police on Wednesday announced that trucks will be banned from using main roads during peak hours.
According to a statement issued on social media, Abu Dhabi Police Head Government headquarters - in coordination with the Department of Transport - said that trucks are not allowed on main roads from 6:30am to 9:00am and from 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
Lt. Colonel Mohammad Salem Al Mazioud Al Shehi, Director of the Department of Traffic Engineering and Road Safety, Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said that according to a study conducted on the intensity of traffic movement in the Capital, timing for heavy trucks during peak hours have been amended.
Earlier in May this year, the police had announced that the period of banning trucks and heavy vehicles will be from 08:00 am to 10:00am and from 02:00pm to 04:00 pm
He said truckers may risk a fine of Dh1000 plus 4 black points if they are caught driving during the prohibited time or enter a prohibited area.
Police requested the truck drivers to ensure they do not use any main roads during peak hours.
The drivers should also not use the roads which are not permitted for trucks, the statement pointed out.
