A quick-witted policeman helped save the life of a resident who was trapped inside his vehicle that was on fire on a Dubai highway.
Sergeant Mohammed Ahmed Mahfouz from the police's difficult tasks team of the general directorate of transport and rescue was driving home when he saw a burning 4WD vehicle on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
In a video of the rescue posted by the Dubai Police on their Instagram account on Saturday, the officer can be seen approaching the burning vehicle cautiously. He can then be seen trying to open the door, but it's locked. He climbs on the foot railing of the vehicle to force the door open, but is unable to do so.
Fortunately, a water tanker stops by and a bystander can be seen trying to extinguish the flame using a hose. Sergeant Mohammed - dressed in a t-shirt and camouflage shorts - snatches the hose from the bystander with a sense of urgency and sprays the water on the flame.
After the fire is extinguished, he and some others can be seen breaking open the car door to rescue the motorist.
