1. Don't compromise your concentration and the safety of other road users by being in a hurry. Leaving for the destination 10 minutes early changes the nature of how you drive.
2. Take extra care to compensate for the fact that children won't always be paying attention, especially when approaching the school gate/drop-off/pick-up areas.
3. Never stop on the road markings by the school gate, and always ensure you let your passengers out on the pavement side.
4. Speed limits on roads near schools are usually 40 kmph. It's essential that you slow down and keep an eye out for children crossing the road and emerging from between parked cars.
5. Always keep an eye out for children who might be running to/from school buses parked adjacent to schools.
6. New students who are not familiar with the school's surroundings may absent-mindedly wander on the roads.
7. If your children go to school alone, either via bicycle or public transport, make sure they are aware of the busy roads they may have to cross. They should know where the zebra crossings are, and should never jaywalk. Encourage them to use footbridges if available in the area. Teach them the rule: STOP! LOOK! LISTEN! Only cross when SAFE!
