The meeting, held at the head office of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, focused on the promotion of mutual cooperation among stakeholders to ensure the highest levels of traffic safety and security for users of the tunnel when it opens for vehicles shortly.

The committee, which consists of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, the Abu Dhabi Police (Traffic and Civil Defence), the Department of Transport and the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA), stressed the importance of using cutting-edge technologies in managing the tunnel. The tunnel is the largest so far in the UAE, and is set to act as a vital transportation and traffic corridor capable of handling higher traffic volumes, thus easing the pressure on main streets parallel to or intersecting with Al Salam Street as well as those of the neighbourhood. It would be kept under a trial period before it is officially opened, the committee noted.
