With the long Eid Al Fitr weekend drawing to a close, UAE residents are already preparing to return to work. Many in the country enjoyed the longest break yet this year, after the country announced a five-day break from April 30 to May 4 for the private sector and a nine-day break for the public sector that ends on May 9.
For some who will battle post-holiday blues as they return to offices on Thursday, this means planning for the next long weekend has already begun.
According to the list of public holidays released by the UAE Government, residents can expect at least two more long weekends in 2022. These will take place on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, as well as the UAE Commemoration Day and National Day.
The first of these long weekends will fall during Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha from Zul Hijah 9 to 12. Based on astronomical calculations, that means residents - across both the public and private sectors - are looking at a four-day-long break from Saturday, July 9 to Tuesday, July 12. The final announcement of these dates is subject to the moon sighting.
Following this, the UAE will observe public holidays on July 30 for Islamic New Year and October 8 for the birthday of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). As both dates fall on a Saturday, long weekends will not be on the cards.
The next - and last - official long break will be marked on the occasion of Commemoration Day on November 30 and the UAE National Day on December 2. The official days off for these dates has been listed as running from Thursday, December 1, till Sunday, December 4.
