On Wednesday, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, laid the foundation stone for the Meydan One Mall in Dubai. The inauguration was marked with a fireworks display. The mall is scheduled to be completed by 2020. While details surrounding the new mall are still sketchy, here is what we know so far.

It's going to break records

In line with the Dubai tradition of breaking records and being the best overall, Meydan One is expected to be the largest mall in town. If navigating Dubai Mall has proven to be a daunting task, Meydan One is a different experience altogether.

It will have 620 retail stores



Dubai expats are known for their love of the hobby known as shopping. With so much ground to cover, Meydan One will be able to house over 620 stores. Which brands are you expecting to see there?

It will be the best of both worlds



Namely old and new Dubai. Based on the photos released by Dubai Media Office, certain areas of the mall will be built in the style of traditional UAE houses.

You can kayak in the mall premises .

Or any other water sport for the matter.  But just let that sentence sink in. Water sports. Mall. Normally it would be ill-advised to try and paddle a kayak or go stand-up paddling inside a mall, but in Meydan One? That is completely possible.

It will have a ski slope like no other

According to the Dubai Media Office, the Meydan One will also have a 1km long indoor ski slope. Think Ski Dubai but bigger. If ever you want to try out a larger slope, but lack the venue to do so, you'll soon have the chance.

See your favorite artists on water



You heard that right. Meydan One will have a floating stage for concerts and events. 

Get ready for Dubai's largest dancing fountain


Say goodbye to the throngs of people at the Dubai Fountain because the Meydan One will have its own fountain. According to meydanonemall.ae, when finished, it will be the largest fountain in the world.

Find a place to park . always

The Meydan One Mall will also have over 12,000 parking spaces. That number can accommodate a huge number of vehicles on both weekdays and weekends. 

You can play sports



The upcoming mall will also have a 260,300 sq ft indoor multi-purpose sports facility. Now you can play cricket or tennis with your buddies on the fanciest side of town. It will also have over 5.3km of cycling and running tracks.

It will house the tallest residential tower in the world



Expected to stand at a height of 711m, the Meydan One will have a residential tower called Residential One.  It will have 161 floors.
