Nearly 100 cyclists are expected to ride 14km across Dubai on February 26 to raise awareness of disorders that affect 1 out of 17 people in the UAE.
To mark the Rare Disease Day, cyclists will set off from the Bikers Café on Jumeirah Beach Road at 2pm to the Dubai Creek Park to help raise awareness of rare diseases, not only in the UAE but worldwide.
"Already 59 have registered and we expect the total number of cyclists to go up to 100," said Donal Kilalea, who is part of the organising team. This is the second the cyclists will gather to show their support and raise awareness.Once at Dubai Creek Park participants will gather and take part in a commemorative photo opportunity then cycle 14km back to the Bikers Café for a celebratory complimentary meal.
"We would encourage as many people as possible to register for the cycle day. Everyone taking part will not only be helping raise awareness of rare diseases in the UAE but will also help raise awareness of the thousands of diseases that affect both children and adults worldwide."
Upto 8,000 rare diseases, mostly genetic, have been registered worldwide.
Rare Disease Day will see countries and regions across the world come together and hold awareness-raising activities based on the slogan 'Join us in making the voice of rare diseases heard.'
The ride will be marshalled by the Dubai Police who will be providing support cars and motor bikes on the day.
