The Sharjah Police have seized 107 vehicles in two weeks for endangering the lives of other motorists and theirs passengers on the highways. The police said most of the drivers were caught racing on the roads, during an inspection campaign.
Major Mohammed Al Naqabi, Director of Traffic and Patrol Department at the Sharjah Police, said that the department had launched the campaign targeting reckless drivers, who are endangering others’ lives and creating disturbances and chaos in residential areas by producing annoying sounds.
He added that the campaign was carried out under the strategy of the Ministry of Interior, which aimed at ensuring safety on the roads of the emirate.
This campaign is part of a series of campaigns that will be conducted this year to curb reckless driving.
Major Al Naqabi explained that the seized cars were found violating the rules. “The police will not tolerate those who found putting the lives of innocent people to danger,” he said. He added that some of the cars were found to be modified to produce disturbing sound in violation of the law, which stipulates tough penalty for such activities.
He urged the residents to cooperate with the police by informing them about any kind of illegal activities and negative phenomenon.
He called on motorists to follow the traffic law and instructions to ensure safety.
