Dubai Municipality announced that 11,413 buildings were completed in Dubai during 2016, recording an increase of 44 per cent from the previous year.
As a result, a total of 105,498,710 square feet building space is ready now, which is an increase of 33 per cent from last year.
Layali Al Mulla, Director of Buildings Department at Dubai Municipality, said the department receives requests for structural audit on buildings before pouring the concrete and bolstering drilling.
"We study these requests and carry out on-site inspection and respond to requests within a working day as we are keen to meet the needs and expectations of our customers and to improve their level of satisfaction and happiness," said Al Mulla, adding that the Department received 48,024 such requests last year.
Abdullah Al Shezawi, Head of Engineering Supervision Section in the Buildings Department said the section carried out 26,434 inspection visits on the sites under construction during 2016.
He said the highest priority is given to the application of safety regulations and requirements at construction sites to protect the lives and property and to reduce losses caused by them.
Earlier, the municipality announced it will be launching a laboratory with the Dubai Civil Defence to test fire retardant or fireproof building material. The new lab will help authorities test and certify fire resistance of building materials.
Al Shezawi added that the reporting team in the Engineering Supervision Section has processed 1,827 reports of all kinds in 2016, which include construction accidents, violations, cases of non-compliance with the engineering and safety requirements of sites under construction and complaints received by the Municipality Call Centre on inconveniences resulting from work at night.
