The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has installed 115 new signboards on the Wasit and Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed roads.
The new scheme, worth Dh10.2 million, will help ensure traffic flow and add to the civilised image of the emirate's roads, according to Eng Fatima Al Ketbi, deputy director of road projects, SRTA.
"The project, observing the latest international standards, is also in line with the development plans of the government of Sharjah to improve all the services being rendered to the public."
Elaborating, she said 22 of these signs are on walls, whereas 27 others are put up on separate posts. "These are added to 66 general guidance road signboards to give more information to road users."
The 115 road signs installed are so clear and visible that they can be easily figured out by all residents, regardless of their language, education or culture, Al Ketbi pointed out. "They show the main roads, cities, government departments, and other important facilities, thus saving time, effort and money."
Up to 50 per cent of the project has been completed so far, she said. "The project is expected to be thoroughly complete in the first quarter of 2017."
The project, in pursuance of the directions of His Highness Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, is to meet the expected needs of the urban expansion of the emirate.
The RTA Sharjah Call Centre is reachable 24/7 at (600525252) for feedbacks, inquiries, remarks and complaints.
