The Dubai Public Prosecution is interrogating two Pakistani suspects for impersonating police officials and theft.
On June 20, an Indian national who works for a real estate company informed the Rafaa Police that someone named G.A. had called him claiming to be from the Rafaa Police Station and asked the Indian to report to the police station as he was involved in a case.
According to the victim, two days earlier, on June 18, while he was in his house, someone knocked on his door claiming to be from the CID. The man also allegedly showed the victim his ID. He then entered the house, confiscated his phone and his wallet and asked him to accompany him in his car.
When they reached a crowded area, the accused asked the man to pay him money for saving him from the crime he was involved in with his friend who in turn was detained by the police. He took Dh2,000 which he found in the victim's possession and then forced him to withdrew Dh5,000 from his account. He then asked the victim to pay him Dh15,000 if he did not want to be arrested. The victim promised to pay the amount the next day.
The victim told the police that when he reached his house, he felt he was cheated and hence he complained to the police.
The police launched an investigation and arrested the 25-year-old Pakistani suspect T.A. who works in a private company. He had earlier called the victim claiming to be G.A.
When searching T.A.'s house the police found the victim's phone and a receipt for transfer of Dh3,262 to his homeland. He confessed that his compatriot who works with him and who is a friend of the victim had given him the victim's phone number. The police arrested him, too. Both suspects have confessed to the crime.
