Abu Dhabi: NMC Healthcare opened UAE's largest private sector hospital - the $200 million NMC Royal Hospital at Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi.
This multi-specialty hospital with a total built-in capacity of 500 beds is ready to serve the nation as a quaternary care, referral centre hospital.
Considered as the hospital of tomorrow, the majestic 75,000sqm NMC Royal Hospital will be the first of its kind in the private sector to offer continuum of care for its patients besides providing world-class emergency, critical and acute cardiovascular care.
Shaikh Nahyan bin Mabarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, inaugurated the NMC Royal Hospital at a event, which was attended by over 800 officials, dignitaries and medical professionals.
The delegates were given a tour of the facility which encompasses an umbrella of medical care specialisations.
On the occasion, Shaikh Nahyan said: "The NMC Royal Hospital is the first hospital to be completed on the land awarded by the Executive Council of Abu Dhabi and Health Authority of Abu Dhabi in accordance with the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 plan."
Along similar lines, NMC's recent acquisition of Europe's leading fertility services provider Eugin and a majority stake in the GCC reproductive services leader Fakih IVF is providing NMC Royal Hospital the latest technological know-how to set up a full-fledged In Vitro Fertilisation clinic and advanced capabilities for genetic disorders screening.
Dr B.R. Shetty, executive vice chairman and CEO of NMC Healthcare, said the opening of the hospital brings long-awaited state-of-the-art medical services, healthcare facilities and emergency care to the residents of Abu Dhabi and the UAE at large.
On the backdrop of its key acquisitions, NMC healthcare has created an environment in which the newly acquired companies share their operational know-how and best-in-class practices.
This integrated network is witnessed in NMC Royal Hospital where the continuum of care is being established for patients via primary, secondary and tertiary care by NMC, long term acute care expertise from Provita and the homecare services knowledge from Americare. This is a model that will serve as a platform for the company's further expansion into the GCC.
As the largest private healthcare provider in the country with a combined strength of 8,000 employees and 1,000 doctors, NMC Healthcare is in a unique position to leverage its human capital for new projects such as the NMC Royal Hospital.

The new hospital, located in Khalifa City, is proximate to the residents of Khalifa City, Al Raha, Mohammed bin Zayed City, Masdar City, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Shahama and Yas Island, all suburbs which, according to the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, are expected to house around one-fifth of the emirate's total population by 2030.
"As the population of the capital moves further in to mainland Abu Dhabi, NMC Royal Hospital is the answer for the residents' need for a local hospital here," said Dr Shetty.
