28 air-conditioned public bus shelters open in Sharjah

140 more shelters are planned across the emirate.

Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) to ensure passengers' convenience and beat the heat during scorching summer temperatures on Tuesday opened 28 out of 172 air-conditioned public bus shelters planned in the city.
The 172 environment-friendly bus stops, worth Dh16 million, are in pursuance of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, according to a top official.

Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman, Sharjah Urban Planning Council, said all the 172 bus shelters are solar powered as per the latest international standards. "More bus shelters are to be opened in later stages."
Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, director of transport affairs, SRTA, said each and every bus shelter is equipped with LCD screens to enlighten the public about the number and timing of public bus routes available.
"All of the new bus shelters accommodate 10 to 15 passengers at a time with a spacious seat for four passengers."
Every air-conditioned bus shelter electronically opens at 6am and closes at 12 midnight, he stated.
Advertisers have enough spaces for their ads on the internal and external parts of these shelters, he stated. "The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority started building these air-conditioned bus shelters as of November 12, 2017."
The 28 bus shelters built in Sharjah included six on Al Wahd St, four on King Faisal St, four on Al Dhaid St and Airport Rd, four on Al Zahra St, and two around Clock Square.
"There are also two on Sheikh Khalid bin Khalid Al Qasimi St, two on the 1st Industrial Road, one of Al Uruba St, one on University City Rd, on at Al Rifaa area, and one at Al Nahda area."
"More air-conditioned bus shelters are to be built all over Sharjah to meet the pressing needs of the incessantly growing numbers of public transport passengers amounting to 40 million people this year so far."
Al Jarwan said RTA Sharjah is more than ready to respond to customers' feedbacks and complaints. "RTA Sharjah Call Centre is reachable 24/7 at (600525252) for feedbacks, inquiries, remarks and complaints."
