A 38-year-old Indian man drowned on Saturday in the swimming pool of his building in Al Nahda area in Sharjah.
According to a Sharjah Police official, the operations room received a call in the morning about the incident, and a team of experts from forensic department, Criminal Investigation Department and Ambulance and Rescue unit rushed to the area, but found the man already dead.
The official said that the man woke up early morning and decided to swim while no guard was around the pool. However, it looked like the man got tired and drowned in the deep pool. The police shifted the body to the forensic laboratory for post-mortem.
Drowning incidents increase during this time of the year due to the pleasant weather, he said, adding that with this incident, the number of drowning cases reached 25 in 2016.
The police are making great efforts to reduce the number of drowning cases in the beaches in the emirate by spreading awareness among beachgoers
An official at the Sharjah Municipality said that a fine of Dh5,000 will be imposed on residential buildings, clubs, hotels and villas that do not comply with safety regulations.
