A total of 426 volunteers from 32 nationalities took part in the Dubai Police initiative 'Ride with Dubai Bikers Unit'.
The 426 volunteers - 365 are males and 61 females - completed 2,290 hours of volunteering and swept away 2,230km area. They issued 700 tickets for violators under the supervision of 320 task force personnel.
Lt-Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-chief of the Dubai Police, lauded the initiative that brought together volunteers and the police in patrolling and sharing awareness on Covid-19 measures. "The harmony between local authorities and residents have been a key factor in achieving the highest levels of safety and security in the emirate," he said.
As many as 10,000 volunteers had applied to join the Dubai Police's efforts to educate the public about the precautionary and preventive measures to combat Covid-19.
Brig Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, director of the criminal investigation department, said the Dubai Police were thrilled with the volume of applicants and the quick response of the public who "showed a great sense of social responsibility to serve their community in the time of need".
"The selected volunteers joined the police officers in 1,248 of security patrols during the curfew, covering 16 different locations across the emirate including La Mer, City Walk, Downtown, Al Wasl, Al Bada'a, Jumeirah, Al Diyafah, Al Satwa, Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Qudra, Al Khawaneej, Arabian Ranches, the Palm, GBR, Marina, and Blue Ocean Island," he added.
