The UAE announced Friday the deaths of 45 soldiers deployed in Yemen as part of a Saudi-led coalition battling rebels, with Yemeni military sources blaming an "accidental explosion".
Twenty three soldiers wounded in the incident in Marib province died of their injuries, raising the toll from an initial 22, state news agency WAM reported.
Earlier today, the General Headquarters (GHQ) of the UAE Armed Forces had announced today that a number of the UAE personnel died while performing their national duty as part of the Saudi-led Arab coalition in support of the legitimate government in Yemen.
The GHQ had offered condolences to the families of the martyrs and prayed to Allah the Almighty to bestow his mercy on them and to rest them in eternal peace.
Arab Parliament Speaker mourns UAE's heroic martyrs
Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Ahmed Mohammed Al Jarwan, has paid homage to the UAE martyrs who died in the line of duty during 'Operation Restore Hope,' under the Arab alliance to support the people of Yemen and their legitimate government, national news agency Wam reported today.
Al Jarwan, on behalf of the Arab people, offered his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, armed forces personnel, the martyrs' families and the people of UAE.
''By answering the call of duty, the UAE martyrs have engraved their names in the annals of Arab and Islamic history,'' he said, praying to the Almighty to grant their souls Paradise and give the families the strength to bear the loss.
