Hygiene aside, every now and then we do miss the larger than life deep-fried puri served with spicy chickpeas curry on Indian streets. Neither can we imagine relishing a plate of Chhole Bhature without the usual accompaniments - raw onion rings, a fresh green chilli, and of course, mixed pickle. We bring to you five places where you can sample the dish in Dubai for as less as Dh12! We promise the street-vendor experience. This one isn't for fine diners.

Don't let the Malabari name of the restaurant (Al Quoz & Silicon Oasis) stop you from ordering a plate. If spice is not your thing, then you will enjoy the semi-sweet curry. We suggest eating this one at breakfast. While at it, why not give Chhole Samosa (Dh6) and Dahi Chhole Samosa (Dh8) a try? Also, the restaurant serves desi Chinese, maybe next time.

If you've lived in Dubai for as long as we have, you surely would have definitely sampled their preparation. They have 16 outlets across the city serving the tangy and creamy chhole. They pair equally well with a hot parantha as well.

It's what we call ghar ka khana. Their preparation doesn't boast typical street-side flavours - rather its homemade taste and feel will please your taste buds. We recommend their Chana Poori (for Dh15) too. They're present across four locations in the city.

The restaurant (eight locations in Dubai) gets full points for getting the semi-dry curry right; it is rich in masala, but not OTT. Our Indian friends say it is as best as served at Nathu's Sweets, New Friends Colony, New Delhi. Now, that's something. Plus, it comes with a portion of tangy potato wedges. Not the regular McDonald's version, but ones doused with lemon juice with a coating of red chilli powder.

Known for its fare of chaats, the eatery (Al Barsha & Al Karama) is a favourite with those who miss eating a plate at Paharganj in Delhi. It is a no-nonsense meal. Of course, there's no running away from the oil.
