When we think of shopping in Dubai, the Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and other opulent malls come to our mind. Though shopping at these places can be enjoyable, Dubai has a wide variety of markets which many shoppers don't consider as their primary shopping destination. Interestingly, most of these markets sell wares at affordable prices.

Here we take a look at some shopping places in Dubai other than malls:

Meena Bazaar

This market located close to Khalid Bin Al Waleed Street in Bur Dubai was originally called Cosmos Lane. It was named Meena Bazaar due to a resemblance to the market with the same name in Delhi.

The place offers a wide variety of mostly Indian and Pakistani clothes, at varying price range. The market glitters with a large number of diamond and gold shops and is one of the best places to shop for gold. Jewellery shops often come out with special offers and discounts for customers.

There is also a wide range of coffee shops and restaurants around the market place.

The market remains open Saturday to Thursday. However, the shops close for 30 minutes to an hour every day. One word of caution: Leave your car at home when visiting this market.

Deira Old Souq

Located in Bur Dubai, Deira Old Souq offers wide variety of fabrics, shoes, clothes, and artificial jewellery at cheap prices. One can also find several Indian, Pakistani and Afghani tailors in the market. There is a huge scope for bargaining here. Though shopping in the market can be tough during summers, food outlets spread across the market come as a good relief. The nearest metro stations to the market is Al Fahidi Metro Station and Al Ghubaiba Metro Station.

Dragon Mart

This dragon shaped shopping centre offers 4000 stores selling almost everything ranging from furniture, electronics, fabric, clothes, footwear, toys, stationary and building material at affordable prices. Housing one of the largest numbers of traders outside China, the center is open to both retail and wholesale customers. For those setting up their new home here, Dragon Mart is the best place to shop. Located on Al Awir Road, International City, going by car is the most feasible option as there is no Metro connectivity to the center.

Karama Shopping Complex

Also called Karama market, it is located along a street running through Karama district, Dubai. The market is full of shops selling fabric, clothes, footwear besides sportswear. It is also a great opportunity to practice your haggling skills. One can reach the market by metro, bus or car.

Al Fahidi Street

The place offers electronics far cheaper than any part of the world. Probably Nehru Place market in New Delhi would come close. Electronic shops selling computers, laptops, cameras as well as household electronics like ovens, refrigerators, and washing machines line up the street. Al Fahidi metro station is near to the market.
