As many as 60 patrols have been deployed by the Ajman Police to ensure road safety and security in various parts of the emirate during Eid Al Adah holidays.
The patrols fanned out in traffic hot spots in the emirate to regulate vehicular movement on Thursday. The intensified patrols are aimed to reduce traffic congestion, while preventing any wrong behaviour by drivers, and ensuring people adhere to anti-Covid measures.
Lt Col Saif Abdullah Al Falasi, director of traffic and patrols department, said that 60 patrols, including 12 traffic controllers, have already been deployed since early morning in various areas of the emirate to monitor traffic and ensure security around the clock. The patrols were stationed near commercial centres, main roads and tourist places of Ajman.
He added that the patrols will keep a check on traffic violations, including reckless driving. They will also nab those who ride bicycles right in the middle of public roads to have fun and risk their lives as well as that of other road users. The teams will keep a watch on people and make sure they follow preventive and precautionary measures, such as wearing masks and gloves, and maintain social distancing, he pointed out.
Al Falasi pointed out that the deployment of traffic patrols has been stepped up as public gatherings increase in the markets and commercial centres during Eid. The patrols also keep a vigil on places where pedestrians cross the road around shopping areas, unmindful of speeding vehicles, he said.
