Nine Filipina jobseekers were rescued after falling victim to illegal recruiters. The women were promised jobs in Dubai, which didn't exist.
According to GMA News Online, the victims were offered jobs in Dubai via social media.
Upon their arrival in Dubai, they found that there were no jobs awaiting them - instead, the fraudsters told them that there were openings in Iraq.
Department of Foreign Affairs Asst. Secretary Elmer Cato said that the women tried to enter Iraq illegally because they did not have visas.
The embassy is finding a way for the women to be repatriated to the Philippines. They are also investigating the illegal recruiter that led the women to Dubai.
The foreign affairs department urged Filipinos to only apply through recruitment agencies accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration. They also warned jobseekers against such job scams posted on social media.
