Soon, you will see healthy green foliage around mosques in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK). Thanks to Environment Protection and Development Authority (EPDA), which is set to plant 50,000 trees in 930 mosques in the emirate.
EPDA has taken up the initiative in collaboration with Islamic Affairs and Endowment Authority (IAEA) wherein fruits and local trees will be planted around the mosques to enhance their green cover.
Dr Saif Al Ghais, Executive Director (EPDA), said that the new scheme is a part of their campaign to plant 1.1million trees. "The campaign was launched two years ago to increase the greenery in RAK by planting trees in schools, industrial and public areas," Al Ghais said, adding that that the mosques will be surrounded by Sidr, mangrove, samar and almond trees.
The IAEA has formed special teams to plant trees and also look after them.
Ali Al Khanbuli, IAEA office manager, said, "The initiative is part of the IAEA strategic partnerships with all government departments and institutions in the emirate to take care of the mosques here."
The initiative will make the emirate even more appealing which is famous for its green valleys and mountains, attracting, even more, visitors, he added.
