The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has granted citizenship to 97 children of Emirati mothers on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Interior General Directorate of Naturalisation and Residency and Ports handed the citizenship to the children, in line with a decree by the UAE President.
Brigadier Saeed Al Rashidi, Director General of Naturalisation, Residency and Ports Affairs, congratulated the new citizens during the ceremony and expressed his appreciation to the decision.
He said that the 97 children met the necessary conditions, and the ceremony comes in conjunction with the 45th National Day. He added that the decision also confirms with the vision of securing stability of families, while emphasising on the value of social cohesion, which contributes to national growth. This is not the first time children were granted citizenship. Back in May, 152 children of Emirati mothers and foreign fathers were also welcomed as UAE citizens, in line with the decree.
