By 2018, Abu Dhabi's Shaikha Fatima Park will boast highlights like a botanical garden, butterfly park, skiing facility and an interactive fountain.
The former Khalidiya Ladies Park in the Capital, to be reopened in two years' time, will also have playgrounds, a cultural arena, an outdoor market, an organic food market with a terrace, retail suites, outdoor cafés, and passenger drop-off areas. This is besides outdoor seating areas, a footpath, fitness area, cycling track, sightseeing wings, and a 3-metre-high elevated floor.
The project costing Dh94 million will see the redevelopment of the 46,000 square metre park, of which 24,035 cover green spaces.
Renovation work that started in June and slated for completion in July 2018, aims to provide modern services, create an upscale environment and an excellent atmosphere for families at the park.
The park rehabilitation project also covers surface parking spaces - including a striking façade for the car park - basement parking, bathrooms and a mosque.
The Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport said the construction work started last month and it will be completed in July 2018.
The project is among Abu Dhabi government's many efforts to build recreational venues and to offer its residents decent living and entertainment options at world-class standards. The government is also committed to expanding green spaces, parks and landscaping projects in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, and establish infrastructure to keep up with the city's high growth and sustainability rates, a statement the department said.
