Mahmood Al Mousa was born in 2006, and has lived as a refugee in Lebanon since age six. He attended the training session held at the refugee camps in Lebanon and said he felt physically and psychologically comforted by them. He hopes to become a lawyer one day.
There are always a few special children who are different by their presence and the energy they exuberate with their thoughts. Mahmood is currently recovering from meningitis, a condition which doesn't allow him to speak properly. But his zeal to participate in every exercise and activity is exceptional. The best part is that he has a unique strength inside him which he seems to have developed from his life experiences that come from witnessing the war.
Mahmood says that through the workshop, he is experiencing a happiness and freedom never felt before. When heavy raindrops pattered the asbestos roof of the school hall, it used to disturb him, bringing back memories of war. But now, he feels he can fulfil his dream and fight for the rights of the weak.
In one of the sessions, he expressed, "Anyone who is weak, by his endeavour can be strong''. This statement, coming from a 10-year-old Syrian refugee, gives us hope that these children who have witnessed so much stress and violence can be given the right direction and human values to build a better future against all odds.
