Want to vent out your frustration in a safe and secure way? Or just want to whack that stress out from one of those rough days of your life when everything goes haywire? Head to Dubai's newly opened Smash Room!
Located in Umm Suqueim Road in Al Quoz Industrial Area 4, this place lets you smash anything - from items as small as a wine glass to a 42-inch television set - in a controlled environment. What's more, there's constant supervision and guidance by the staff, so you have an injury-free experience.
Canadian Hiba Balfaqih, co-founder of what is arguably the reg-ion's first such facility, said: "This is just like any other sporting activity where you indulge yourself in a physical way and work every part of your body releasing endorphins, which at the end helps you feel rel-axed and stress-free.
"The shattered pieces are sent to be recycled just to make sure that the process of smashing stuff is environment-friendly and sustainable, and people are able to indulge in it in the least intrusive manner," said Ibrahim Abudyah, Balfaqih's partner in the business, who was inspired by the likes of wreck, anger, fragment and rage rooms that have cropped up around the world in recent years. "This is just what we needed. With stress building up in our lives every day, we do need to vent, and there is no better way to do it than this," said Mohammed Alees, 38, a Jordanian father of three, who works in a local bank.
Working professionals are not the only ones who fancy having a go at things in Dubai's first smash room. For Gilman Hussain, set to graduate from a Dubai university this summer, stress is building up because of "final exams and peer pressure to land a well-paid job".
"I have two siblings who understand my problems, but my parents don't seem to relate at all and their expectations don't quite help. The smash room is a great idea," said the 20-year-old Indian.
The Smash Room is open weekdays from 11am to 10pm. You can have a smashing time on weekends as well, from 9am to 11pm.
