A cathedral in the Capital held a fun-filled cultural event for children to ease their nerves before they return to schools from Sunday.
Father MC Mathai Maracheril, vicar of the St. George Orthodox Cathedral held 'Kusurthy Koottam' event just before the school reopening so as to serve dual purpose.
"Majority of the followers are from Kerala. So, we decided to host such an awareness event focusing on Kerala. This will help them relax before their school reopening and also educate them about the traditional practices being followed in Kerala."
Nearly 200 children took part in the Friday programmes, which included an exhibition on antique furniture, household items, and kitchenware that unfortunately are non-existent nowadays. Most of them were bought from Kerala. There were video shown on snake boat race, traditional dances and the like. Children keenly followed all the shows and sang the traditional boat song. Later, a tug-of-war was also held that the boys team won.
Sarah Jacob said that such events are like 'family gathering'. "They provide a friendly atmosphere with a great choice of activities. They also provide valuable information about Kerala culture."
Abiya Sara Joji enjoyed 'each and every moment'. "This is a good get together before the school starts."
Daron Gregor said he is happy to be here and eagerly awaits the next 'Kusurthy Koottam'.
Father Shajan Varghese, the assistant vicar, oversaw all the proceedings.
