The Abu Dhabi General Administration of Customs has announced that its inspectors at the Mezyad Customs Centre in Al Ain, have foiled two illegal immigration efforts to cross the border by two truck drivers and three people with no identification papers.
In a press statement, details of the first incident revealed that inspectors at Mezyad Customs Centre placed an Arab truck driver under suspicion, while carrying out customs procedures. A search using modern detectors followed by a manual inspection lead to the discovery of two people of Arab origin hiding under a car cover in the vehicles trunk.
The second incident was reported when inspectors became suspicious of a truck driver from an undisclosed Asian country in the course of customs formalities and procedures. They summoned the driver for further inspection, leading them to find an illegal immigrant of African origins hiding in the vehicle's trunk.
The customs inspectors transferred the two truck drivers and the three illegal immigrants to the concerned authorities to take the necessary legal action.
Commenting on the incident, Mohamed Khadem Al Hameli, Acting Director-General of the General Administration of Customs - Abu Dhabi, praised the role of customs officers and their readiness to deal with cases that represent a great risk to the security and safety of the community.
Al Hameli added,"The General Administration of Customs is committed to protecting the community, reducing any security risks that result from cross-border trade and travellers by adopting best international practices."
"The administration continues its efforts to improve the skill of its inspectors through the provision of continuous education programmes and support in their day to day work. It also continues to maintain homeland security and trade facilitation through a range of customs services as well as supporting in strengthening the national economy through the collection of customs revenue," he concluded.
