The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee on Tuesday issued updated guidelines for anyone wishing to enter the capital, effective Thursday, December 24.
These would apply to all UAE citizens and residents, as well as returning Abu Dhabi residents. Here's everything you need to know.
What are the Covid test requirements for citizens or residents wishing to enter the capital?
Citizens and residents must take a Covid test — either PCR or DPI will do — and receive a negative result within 72 hours of entering Abu Dhabi. (Previously, the requirement for test validity was that citizens and residents would need to enter the emirate within 48 hours of receiving a negative PCR or DPI laser test result.)
If they plan on staying for six or more consecutive days in the capital, they must take a PCR test on Day 6 from the date of entry.
How will the duration of stay be counted?
The day of arrival in Abu Dhabi will be counted as Day 1.
For example, if entering Abu Dhabi on Sunday (Day 1), and staying for six or more consecutive days, a PCR test must mandatorily be taken on Friday (Day 6).
Previously, visiting or returning citizens and residents were required to undergo tests on Day 4 and 8 after arrival into the capital.
What are the consequences of failing to take the second PCR test?
Those failing to undergo a PCR test on Day 6 after their entry into the capital will be liable to fines.
Are there any exemptions for these measures?
Volunteers in the National Vaccination Programme and Phase III clinical trials who have an identification mark (letter E or golden star) on Alhosn app will be exempt from these measures.
They are also authorised to use emergency vehicle lanes when entering Abu Dhabi to ensure a smooth journey.
