The Abu Dhabi Police have arrested an Arab national for allegedly trying to rob valuables from inside a car in a parking lot of a residential area in the capital.
The suspect told investigators that he was involved in ten other cases of thefts.
The police recovered a mobile phone which he had stolen from vehicle. The thief is on the sponsorship of a wedding planner. His residence was searched and all stolen items have been recovered.
In another case, the police tracked down three Asians for allegedly breaking in and robbing the apartment of an Arab expatriate. The gang made off with a tablet and smart phone. As many as 22 complaints were filed against them in the last three years.
The taskforce of the Criminal Investigations Department or CID of Al Shabiyya Police station, in Abu Dhabi, has chalked out an action plan to track down the thieves.
The trio was tracked down and apprehended while attempting to flee the emirate. On interrogations, it appeared that two of the suspects had violated the residency laws of the country while the third had a police criminal record for three robberies he had committed in Dubai. The trio also showed the CID officers the place where they had concealed the stolen items, which were recovered.
After their confessional statements were recorded, the trio will be referred to prosecution.
Colonel Ahmed Saif bin Zaitoun Al Mehairi, director of the Capital police directorate at Abu Dhabi Police said: "Abu Dhabi Police are on high alert to discharge its security and police duties with high professionalism and round the clock."
"The Abu Dhabi Police will not hesitate to deal with sick-minded people who tarnish the civilised image of the society in general, as the rules are clear and strenuous in deterring those who break the laws," he stressed.
Colonel Mehairi urged motorists to ensure their cars are locked while parked. He also urged asked them not to leave behind valuables. Residents were also told to lock the doors of their houses and apartments, especially while they are away.
Colonel Mehairi urged the public to call the police operations room on 999 or contact Aman 8002626 and report any theft.
