A marching band, mounted police, and hundreds of officers attired in the new police uniforms gave a festive mood to the 60th anniversary celebrations of Abu Dhabi Police held in the UAE Capital on Tuesday evening.
A number of other royals also attended the ceremony held under the patronage of His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and was attended by Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court and a number of sheikhs, ministers, police commanders and state officials, watched as hundreds of officers performed during the spirited ceremony.
Major-General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, addressed the celebration, and affirmed the massive contributions made by the Abu Dhabi Police throughout the years.
"We have become one of the top police organisations in the world," Al Rumaithi said.
Established in 1957 by the late Sheikh Shakhbout bin Sultan Al Nahyan, ruler of Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Police play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of citizens, residents and expats in the UAE Capital.
Major General Al Rumaithi pointed out that the police force will continue to work vigorously, share knowledge and ideas with experts from around the world and keep up with the latest developments.
"Since its establishment in 1957, the Abu Dhabi Police have been diligently working to generate qualified national cadres that have been groomed as per best international standards in the field until they have notched a globally recognised pioneering position. Ensuring the safety and security of the society has been a vital priority for the past 60 years, and will continue to be our mission," Al Rumaithi added.
The police force have certainly achieved colossal milestones throughout the six decades since its operation began, from saving lives, to combating crime, and even to earning a fresh new look.
In July this year, Abu Dhabi Police revealed their new identity and a change in their logo, vehicles and police uniform, which came in line with the 60th anniversary.
In September, Abu Dhabi Police revealed the brand new fleet of vivid blue and white police vehicles, which were a contrast to the previous red vehicles.
And just this month, Abu Dhabi Police finally revealed the much-anticipated new police uniforms to the public for the very first time.
Also on Tuesday, the sleek beige and earthy-toned uniforms officially took effect and officers including Major General Al Rumaithi wore it during the ceremony,. There are currently more than 34,000 police officers in the UAE Capital, and by 2021, Abu Dhabi will have more than 47,500 officers, serving the community and insuring its safety.
