The Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate has prepared a plan to further enhance safety by focusing on intensifying control to facilitate traffic flow and reduce the causes of traffic accidents during Eid Al Fitr.
The plan, which will be implemented near tourist attractions, parks, and internal and external roads, is a part of the "Your Safety" initiative, as implemented by the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Traffic.
It aims to warn motorists of the dangers from becoming preoccupied with answering greeting messages and phone calls while driving, which results in a loss of concentration on the road that can lead to traffic accidents.
Brigadier Khamis Ishaq Mohammed, Director of the Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Directorate General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, highlighted the importance of abiding by the traffic laws and regulations.
He urged drivers to avoid speeding on internal and external roads and to fasten their seatbelts, as they provide significant protection in the event of a traffic accident. He urged family members to pay attention to the movements of children inside the vehicle and to ensure that they are buckled in the rear seats of the vehicle.
The Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate also called upon motorists to leave a sufficient safety distance between vehicles while driving, and warned them against the dangers of overtaking other vehicles and allowing children and adolescents to drive without a license.
He urged the drivers to comply with road signage and the height restrictions of their cargo - not exceeding 60 cm above the vehicle. He stressed on the importance of paying attention and of staying focused while driving, recommending that drivers should park their vehicles on the right shoulder of the road if they feel tired or fatigued.
