Yes, taxis in Abu Dhabi are going to get upgraded, and yes, travellers will get WiFi services, but no, fares aren't going to increase.
The Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars is seeking to dispel rumours about an increase in fares, with the launch of a new campaign.
The campaign, 'One Tariff for All Silver Taxis', was launched in four malls in the Capital on Wednesday. It aims at raising public awareness about the unified tariff for all silver taxis, with the introduction of 270 Mercedes Vito Compact taxis.
Mohammed Darwish Al Qemzi, general manager of the centre, said: "The 'One Tariff for All Silver Taxi' campaign is launched to raise public awareness about Abu Dhabi silver taxis tariff fares."
The fares have not changed despite the "introduction of many unique services" that were developed by the centre, he said.
The campaign highlights the various services added, including the WiFi service and the provision of child-safety car seats.
There are also electronic discount cards provided for social subsidies beneficiary customers. Those with special needs and the elderly receive a 20 per cent discount on fares.
Moreover, a 60 per cent discount is given to other social subsidies beneficiaries, including divorced women and widows.
Customers can call the centre on 600-535353 to book a taxi.
