Shrug it off as a rumour if you are told that you will have to shell out money to avail air and water facilities at petrol stations in the UAE.
Such rumours were flying thick and fast on social media and have sparked alarm among people. Some users said that Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) could start charging for using air and the pressure devices at petrol stations.
When Adnoc got to know that the rumours were gaining ground, the company on its official Twitter account declared an upgrade of air and water facilities at all its service stations across the UAE. It rubbished all rumours being fuelled on the social networking sites and said there was no intention to charge for the services it was offering.
The punishment for rumour-mongering on the internet is jail and a fine not exceeding Dh1million in the UAE. Anyone found guilty of this crime can be prosecuted.
You may contact Dubai Municipality's Rumour Check team (WhatsApp on +971501077799) if you come across anything that you suspect could be a rumour.
