A factory in Ajman was fined and ordered shut after authorities seized counterfeit engine oil worth Dh20 million.
According to the emirate's Department of Economic Development, 100,000 packets of oil bearing international trademarks were seized after an investigation by its control and consumer protection department.
The factory was located in the Ajman Industrial Area. Abdulla Ahmed Alhemrani, assistant director-general for economic registration and control affairs, said the seizure was effected as part of the department's inspection campaigns. "Our inspections are aimed at curbing practices that harm interests of investors and trademark owners, and pose risks to consumers. Using such products cause damage to their property as they are not compliant with international specifications and standards," he said.
Hassan Ali Alshehhi, manager of anti-commercial fraud section, urged residents to use its 'Fraud Complaint Request' available on the department's website and app.
