Three Arabian furnishing shops have been fined for selling substandard products following a raid in Al Ain recently.
Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (Added) conducted a series of raids following complaints from the public and confiscated 73 different Arabian furnishing products from a number of stores in Al Ain city.
Commercial Protection Directorate of Al Ain Branch at the Added sent inspectors to stores to verify the consumers' allegations and nine stores were found in breach for selling low quality furnishing items.
Commenting on the issue, Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri, Acting Executive Director, of Abu Dhabi Business Centre, said that the fines that were issued against these stores are classified under the entry of "owning, marketing, producing or purchasing counterfeit or fake goods, products or materials whether from a street vendor, the market or from overseas to market them in the UAE."
Al Mansouri pointed out that Added is committed to continue making such visits and taking strict measures against violators, calling on consumers to report any such activities by contacting Abu Dhabi Government Call Centre at 800555.
Khalid Hamarain Al Dhaheri, Head of the Department of Commercial Licensing, Abu Dhabi Business Centre, Al Ain Branch, said that issuing penalties against licensed stores which sold, displayed or procured consumer or non-consumer products that do not comply with local specifications and standards, thus compromising public health or consumer rights.
"Such cases also include the failure of the supplier in providing details of the products in terms of ingredients, specification, usage guide, risks and promotion offers if any, in Arabic language," Al Dhaheri said.
