Abu Dhabi - Al Ain Zoo will reopen this Eid Al Fitr, after remaining closed during the holy month of Ramadan, with 20 special Eid activities.
Among the holiday specials there will be "eidiya", traditionally a gift of cash offered to children during the Eid celebrations. The zoo will not give away cash, but a complimentary entrance ticket for a child to use on their next visit after Eid.
"This year, Al Ain Zoo promises more surprises and unique activities. The young male hippo which was born earlier last month, will be available for public viewing. The hippopotamus is listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of Threatened species as vulnerable due to the significant decline in their population in the past three decades and they are always a favourite amongst our visitors," said Muna Al Dhaheri, chief of Conservation and Education at Al Ain Zoo. Crocodile and large snake feeding, tortoise training, horse, camel and pony rides, birds show and reptile encounters are among the Eid activities.
Al Ain Zoo will be opened during the three days of Eid from 9am till 9 pm. After Eid, the zoo will resume its summer opening hours, from 4 pm till 10 pm (until September 30).
