Preparations are in place for the street fiesta at Al Qasba called Qabam, taking place from March 10-19. The event will be a fusion of music and art, transforming Al Qasba Walkways into an artistic venue featuring live music, art activities and exclusive performances by renowned artists from around the world.
Akiro Endo, a freestyle artist from Japan, will create live art pieces inspired by dance beats and rhythms from March 15-19. Endo, one of the international street art performers taking part at the fiesta, dances himself into a trancelike state and then creates unique art pieces from his dream like state.
He is recognised worldwide for his exceptional performances. Visitors can enjoy his show which will take place three times a day for 30 minutes each.
Blanko, an award-winning artist from Germany, will put up another exciting performance at the street fiesta. He will be covered in paint and visitors will be allowed to paint his body with different colours to create a live art show.
Blanko has done many performances as a Living Statue Artist, and has also appeared in several popular street art performances in Germany called Blanko & Woody.
The statue begins his performance all in white, but becomes a collaborative piece of community art, as visitors are encouraged to paint the statue into a rainbow of colours. Catch Blanko from March 10-14, where he will put up three shows a day - two of 30 minutes each and one 60 minutes performance.
Another performance will be by Mauranga from Spain, who will put up a one-man-show that will feature circus, theatre, music and comedy to delight visitors and families to Al Qasba for three daily shows on all 10 days of the fiesta. Mauranga, from Madrid, utilises improvisation to make the audience laugh and will create a comic atmosphere around spectators.
3D chalk art
There will also be a spectacular 3D Chalk Art display at Al Qasba to thrill visitors with an optical illusion that defies visual logic. Seeing is believing, so visitors to "Al Qasba" must be sure to see the Italian artist, Gennaro at work creating his 3D chalk art masterpiece from March 10-14 available all day.
Sultan Mohammed Shattaf, Al Qasba Manager, said: "We are very excited to be hosting Qabam again, and it is a part of Al Qasba's series of events to attract families, individual and holidaymakers and introduce them to Sharjah's charms."
Along with the fiesta's art and music activities at Al Qasba, a live band will play music during the day. There will be a variety of kiosks and stands selling goods such as textiles, homeware items and souvenirs for visitors to explore.
Art activities taking place at the fiesta include Doodle Walk, where passersby can join in and contribute to the artwork; the Box of Art Installation activity, where visitors can have fun stacking boxes and creating stories and Gnome painting. There is the Corpse Wall and the Fillers for visitors to enjoy.
