Completing 17 years of existence, the hospital is now entering a restructuring phase that includes becoming an independent administrative body with a budget of its own, said Noura Ahmed Al Noman, Chairperson, Board of Directors, Al Qasimi Hospital.

“The Ministry of Health will allocate a budget for the hospital which will be used to upgrade the existing facilities to cater to the population from the Northern Emirates as well,” she explained.

Al Qasimi Hospital is the pilot study project for the MoH, explained Noura, adding that its success would mean similar autonomous bodies all over the UAE.

The hospital has already embarked on an ambitious expansion plan including a Teaching Hospital, Heart Centre (work on which has started) and a Maternity and Child Centre.

“Among the shortcomings we will be looking into immediately is staff recruitment. We are severely understaffed,” said Noura, who was recently appointed head of the Board of Directors.

On the occasion of the 17th anniversary celebrations, nearly 140 existing and former staff members of the hospital were honoured by Minister of Health Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Quttami for their outstanding contribution to the hospital.

The capacity of the mortuary in the hospital was recently increased from 12 to 24 bodies with financial help from the Sharjah Charity International.
