Sharjah police yesterday arrested an Arab man who tried to flee the country after the death of one of his illegal workers at the site. The deceased was wanted by police.
The Arab man who owns a contracting company was arrested at Sharjah Airport trying to run away from the country, following the death of the illegal construction worker who fell from the highrise of a building under-construction.
Police said that they received a call from the operation room about a body at the industrial area, a team of officers comprising CID, patrol, forensic and ambulance rushed to the site.
The police found the body of an Asian man who lived in the country illegally and is wanted by the police.
During the investigation, the Police found that the deceased was hired by the contractor on a daily wage. The contractor tried to run away from the country after he tried to hide the body of the worker by dumping it in the industrial area.
Crime scene experts collected evidence and lifted fingerprints and transferred the body to the forensics laboratory.
The police then launched a hunt for the fugitive contractor who was later arrested minutes before he departure to his country through Sharjah Airport.
During the interrogation, the contractor confessed that he had hired the deceased who was an absconding worker for daily payment.
Col. Ibrahim Al Ajill, Director of CID told Khaleej Times that despite the warnings, there are many companies that are still hiring illegals and absconders and fail to oblige by the laws and regulations of the land. Employing of illegals affects the security and stability of the country. "These violating companies have become, safe resort for the absconders and illegals; most of them wanted by Police for committing various crimes," he added.
