An Arab national stood trial at the Sharjah Shariah Court for allegedly assaulting an Indian grocer to avoid paying for prepaid telephone cards.
According to court records, the 30-year-old accused entered the grocery on December 30, 2015, and asked for mobile phone cards worth Dh200. The salesman gave him two Dh100 cards, which he collected and went out to his car without paying the money.
The salesman followed him and they had an argument. The victim held the car's door and asked the accused to return the cards if he was not willing to pay. The accused pushed the victim and drove away. The salesman fell and sustained fractures in his arm. He was rushed to the hospital.
During the hearing presided by judge Hussain Al Ousofi, the victim said he could identify the accused, who did not attend the court hearing. The case was adjourned to confront the accused.
