An Arab woman involved in a scam involving mobile phones purchased with forged salary certificates, has been charged by the Sharjah Sharia court.
The woman, who was working for a government institution in the emirate, also involved six of her coworkers in the scam, the court presided by Hussain Al Ousofi heard on Monday.
One employee, identified as H.V., who is the accused's colleague, testified in court as a witness. She said the accused earned a salary of Dh1,300. On the day of the incident, the accused asked H.V. to go with her to the Etisalat office in Yarmouk district to buy a mobile phone with bouquet offers. The accused also told her that her national ID card was under renewal, and so she took along H.V., who showed her ID at Etisalat and made the payment on behalf of the accused.
Later, H.V. said she received a message from Etisalat, asking for a payment. When she went back to the office, she discovered that the accused had taken a phone in her name but not paid for it in cash, and that she had also submitted a forged salary certificate in H.V.'s name.
In court, the accused denied that she submitted the forged salary certificate belonging to the witness, but then another witness also testified that the same thing happened with her: she had gone along with the accused, who had asked her for help in purchasing a phone, as her ID was not ready yet. After paying Dh3,000 to Etisalat, the second witness was also surprised with a text message demanding part payment for the mobile phone bought in her name and using a forged salary certificate.
Thus, the second witness lodged a complaint with the Sharjah Police.
The witness also claimed that the accused had done the same with at least 14 people.
The court has adjourned the case to October 16 for the defence to submit its case.
