An Arab man was accused of causing a worker's death, after the latter fell from the top of a warehouse, from a height of 7 metres.
The Arab, who owns the garage where the deceased worked, did not provide the adequate safety and security measures at the workplace, causing the worker's death, the court stated.
During the court hearing, the Arab was held responsible for the death of the Asian victim, arising from negligence, failure to follow regulations, the lack of a sense of guardianship, and for failing to carry out duties.
The incident occurred in February, when the worker climbed up the warehouse roof to carry out maintenance tasks for the workshop. He stood in an unsafe spot, and despite warnings from his colleagues who asked him not to approach or move forward, his foot slipped and he fell off the roof. The accident caused severe injuries all over his body, which led to his death.
The accused defended himself saying he was not in the workshop on the day the fatal incident took place, and that all the security and safety procedures were being followed in his workshop. He stressed that the worker fell as he did not heed the warnings of his coworkers, who asked him not to step forward or stand in that dangers spot.
The court adjourned the hearing for the testimonies of the other witnesses in the worker's death.
