Are thieves using marketing skills to cheat people in Dubai?

Dubai - On receiving a number of complaints, the police swung into action and recovered part of the money collected from the victims. Lt. Col. Hammad said the gang was involved in similar crimes in Singapore and Malaysia.

The Dubai Police have busted a gang of seven Asians who used pyramid marketing to promote a bogus company and duping some of them of up to Dh200,000. The company had promised participants returns of up to 20 per cent on investments.

Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation, said that at times greed for making easy and quick money can lead to loss.

A pyramid scheme is a business model that recruits members via a promise of payments for enrolling others. These are based on network marketing, where each part of the pyramid takes a piece of the pie / benefits. As recruiting multiplies, it becomes impossible to recruit more people.
