In light of World Diabetes Day on November 14, various initiatives will be held across the country to increase awareness among the residents about the disease.
In an advisory released on Wednesday, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) said an estimated 19 per cent of the population in the UAE suffers from diabetes. The authority also elaborated on its various initiatives that help patients overcome the complications.
To raise awareness among the public about the importance of early diagnosis of diabetes and the importance of managing diabetes, the DHA holds a number of awareness campaigns throughout the year.
The DHA, in collaboration with Emirates diabetes society (EDS) and Landmark Group, will organise the Beat Diabetes walk at 7:00am on Friday, November 15, at Zabeel Park, Gate 3.
In Sharjah, Friends of Diabetes Association (FoDA) will also organise a Blue Run on November 14, at 9:30am. Starting at the University City of Sharjah, the event will be the emirate's largest race, organised in collaboration with 18 public and private entities.
The run is part of the 'Blue Circle' initiative that aims to raise awareness about diabetes prevention; encourage diabetic patients to get active and live a healthy lifestyle; and strengthen the community's involvement in the global fight against the disease.
In Ras Al Khaimah, RAK Hospital will launch its "Let's Beat Diabetes" campaign on Friday at 7:00pm with a Fun Zumbathon event on Marjan Island.
