Sinan Mohammed Noorulla felt a sense of deep attachment to the Holy Quran on reading it the first time. At the tender age of nine, Sinan began memorising the holy book, and in just 16 months he has accomplished the impressive task, especially given his age.
He is now Hafiz Sinan Mohammed Noorulla. 'Hafiz' is a honorific term used to address those who have memorised the entire Quran.
"My parents - Mohammed Noorulla and Nafeesa - encouraged me to read, learn and understand the Holy Quran," said the 13-year-old, who hails from Malappuram in Kerala.
What makes this a standout achievement is the fact that Sinan attended regular school and still found the time to learn the Quran - usually a task that takes at least three years. A student of Ryan Private School in Mussafah, he also attended classes at Markaz Salmanul Farisee. He recently won the third Holy Quran Recitation Open Competition conducted by the Indian Social and Cultural Centre Abu Dhabi.
