According to the latest MoL directive, even the skilled workforce including journalists, technicians, electricians, foreman among others will also be in this exempted category, provided they have been working in the UAE for a minimum of three years, a senior official at the Ministry of Labor(MoL) said yesterday.
Humeid bin Demas, MoL assistant undersecretary, said “the verification of academic degrees was made compulsory as of June this year for companies seeking renewal of labour cards upon payment of a one-time fee of Dh500. No such fee will be charged for subsequent renewals of an employee’s labour card
Bin Demas also clarified: “For instance, a general manager, an assistant general manager, a sales manager and any other senior staff in an administrative position, who has spent several years in the UAE, will be exempt from having to submit attested copies of their academic qualifications, while renewing their labour contract.”
However, he added, attested academic or technical degrees and certificates will still be required for certain categories involving professional expertise such as doctors, engineers, accountants, pharmacists and lawyers etc. All those in such professions will have to submit their attested degrees upon renewal of their contract.
This is a precautionary measure, Bin Demas said, to guard against any attempt to falsify or deceive employers in these select professions.
But the new MoL directive stipulates that all new comers to the UAE would have to provide duly attested and verified degrees for the processing of their labour card.
