The Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) has rolled-out a humanitarian initiative to encourage the spirit of giving among school students.
Inviting students to contribute to social waqf projects, the drive seeks to raise their awareness of waqf and its significant role in developing societies and civilisations, according to a senior official.
Ahmad Abu Shehab, Director of AMAF's Waqf Development Department, said the initiative encourages students to collaborate with families and friends to raise donations.
"Such engagement will help revive the role of waqf in providing sustainable funding for humanitarian projects."
As part of the outreach, AMAF will host a series of workshops to showcase its pioneering projects that reiterate the developmental role of the waqf institution in shaping sustainable societies, he added.
"Reviving the sustainable practice and culture of waqf-funded projects in society is a cornerstone of our mission at AMAF."
As part of the foundation's social responsibility mandate, it seeks to infuse a spirit of solidarity and inculcate humanitarian values and principles among school children, he pointed out.
"We are confident that our relentless efforts to boost the spirit of contribution will help raise a generation that understands the importance of waqf and draws their participation for achieving its noble goals."
Abu Shehab stated that the foundation ensures the welfare and care of nearly 2,400 minor children through the development of 'waqf' (the trust funds).
"That provides for their support and the care of their affairs, according to Islamic Sharia principles through a well-structured long term plan, conscious vision and insight."
